Lean Six Sigma, change leadership, and driving effective results go hand in hand. in 1809 Six Sigma foundations emerged and evolved into a step-by-step statistical approach at improving quality outcomes and customer expectations. Similarly, Lean philosophies were first introduced in 1850 and have since evolved into both a business strategy and lifestyle of removing waste from processes and efforts impacting both service and quality results. In the early 2000’s, both philosophies merged to become branded as Lean Six Sigma, a step-by-step approach to transforming business operations. These philosophies and tools form the basis for establishing a transformative culture and arming the individual and organization for whatever is thrown their way.
In addition to Lean Six Sigma, change leadership and management philosophies began to form as corporations and problem-solving individuals identified that it takes more than a great idea for cultures and people to accept change. Transformation relies on the innovation from Lean Six Sigma and the acceptance of that innovation through change management and team cohesion. Without either, efforts run the risk of being thwarted, and implemented solutions may find themselves rejected over time.
There are many organizations today that actively praise and promote their successes from Lean Six Sigma and change management philosophies. Most notably, Toyota, Ford, GE, and Motorola have all actively contributed to the development and promotion of this growing canon of work. Today, hundreds of companies attempt to mirror similar successes by partnering with reputable consulting firms or hiring experienced professionals to adopt their own approaches and develop their own tools unique to their specific industry. In either case, experienced professionals attribute their success from manufacturing and industry where both lean and six sigma philosophies have been perfected. However, many other industries have been slow to adopt these principles because of challenges in translating lessons learned from the manufacturing industry.
